Watson Peart wrote to his brother John in 1855 with news from home and of Jacob as well. Durham Record Office Ref D/X 1035/13 October 5 1855 Dear brother I take the time to write you a few lines to let you know that we are all well as this leves us at present and we gladly hope those few lines will find you all the same.* and we Rescived your letter September th5 and we are glad to hear that you are all well in health but we are glad to hear that you are all a live. We thought you ware dead because you have been so long writing to us. What to say to you about things I do not know. But you said in your letter that, if we (k)new aney thing about Jacob we had to let you know about him. Well we have had a letter from him. We got it September th24 and he is well in health and he is living at vinegar hill ** he is boarded with Walton Read and he is talking of going to California. But he says that he had your opinion a bout it he says that you are not for him going and I will not be for him going ether. If done writing you this letter I have hime one to write to answer his letter. You say in your letter that Hannah has been Disabled this summer with the arysipelus on her Arms we are sorrey to heare tell of that. Well John I must tell you that we have had a most terebel case of fever this summer again but not fatel. Thank god for it. It is Adam*** he fell down at May Day he was 8 weeks before he could see aney chance of him coming a round. Well John we can not let you know his state unless you had seen him. He was specheles for 16 days . he never spake for 16 days but thank god he is got better again. He was 17 weeks of work but he has got back to Work again and he is working at Respey in Rookhope at the washing and your mother John fell Down ill before he has got better. I think she was outdone waiting on him. But she has got better again but it was not the fever she had. You said in your letter that you wanted to know a bout me and whare I was working we James Philipison and Richard Ward and Thomas heslop we are all parted. It is just a year since we ware parted. Thomas heslope and me is in the old vain working in a limestone fore head and Matthew waggd is my partener and Hugh bell is with Heslope. I think we will have made nothing this last year in her but I had a fair pay last year. I had 46£ for my pay. So I think I have given you about the best a count I can but if I have left aney thing out you must let me know in your next letter and let us know how Hannah is and Elivabeth **** is well in health she is livin with her incel Joseph and John Watson and wife they are all in health to. So I mus conclude with giving our kind love to you all so no more peresent from your Mother and brother and sisters.
